How can we encourage adolescents to follow healthy behaviors? Any ideas for parents, healthcare providers, health educators, media, society, etc?
We can encourage adolescents to follow healthy behaviors using the three prevention types which are primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention methods. With all the combination of these three prevention types, young adolescents will have a safer and more healthier life. If they are to live a healthy life that is nothing but quality, then these adolescents are to be encourage to eat healthy, exercise physically on a regular basis, and be taught and educated by certified health educators. Adolscents need to be motivated and encouraged to learn daily about new medical information and prevention. They need to be told and explained to why abusing harmful substances cause death and it causes you to become dumb overtime.
Family plays a key role in keeping their children informed about the negatives in society and life and also keeping a light over into the positives such as eating healthy and taking vitamins and minerals with a balanced nutritous diet. Media can promote these things as they are already in certain teen and kids programming during the mornings or in the afternoon when school is out. Society needs to implement these plans and programs to adolescents so it sticks with them like a skill they carry for the rest of their life because after all it is your health.

Along with everything you mentioned and stated in your posting, such behaviors as intentional self-harm, not wearing their seat belts, playing with guns, and riding with someone who has been drinking are also major concerns that need to be spoken with adolescents about. “Current statistics show that guns kill 10 to 12 children in the United States every day on average.” (pg 65 of our textbook) I fully agree that society, but also parents are responsible for making adolescents grow up with healthy habits.
